Kevyn Orr: Detroit can come back
- Washington DC, South Beach Miami and upper Manhattan used to be like Detroit, the city's emergency Manager, Kevyn Orr says, but they're now vibrant, which is what gives Orr hope that Detroit can stage a comeback.
- Another cause for this hope is that Detroit's midtown and downtown have been revitalized by developers and entrepreneurs, helped by investment from venture capitalists and private foundations.
- The plan is to help "push out" that development from the center into the hinterlands, where there are tens of thousands abandoned or blighted buildings and vacant lots.
