China to start new corruption probe into healthcare sector
- China's State Administration for Industry & Commerce (SAIC) intends to start a new probe tomorrow into corruption in the healthcare sector, Xinhua reports.
- As you'd expect, the investigation aims to crack down on bribery, fraud and other anti-competitive practices. Those found guilty of any wrongdoing can expect severe punishment.
- The new investigation comes as other regulators carry out probes into how overseas and domestic companies do business. It also comes amid accusations of bribery against foreign firms, the latest being against Novartis.
- Corruption is apparently fairly widespread in China, due to doctors' low salaries in the country's 13,500 public hospitals.
