Americans still worse off than they were four years ago
- Median household income was $52,100 in June, 6.1% below its level in December 2007, when the economic slump began, a report from two former Census Bureau officials shows.
- The figure is also 4.4% below the amount in June 2009, when the recession ended.
- "Groups with low incomes tended to have steeper declines in income," Gordon Green, one of the authors of the report.
- The only group in the study that have enjoyed an increase in income since the end of the slump are households headed by people aged 65-74.
