BP spill claimants get expedited hearing
- A group of rebel claimants who are that the Gulf oil spill settlement with BP is not favorable enough is granted an expedited hearing by the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, with oral arguments set for the week of Nov. 4.
- Lawyers who negotiated the deal for the plaintiffs said this week that while more than 200K members of the class had filed claims in the court-supervised settlement program, only five groups of objectors filed appellate briefs.
- The appeals effort is running alongside the main case on liability and damages for the 2010 disaster, which is due to start up again at the end of this month.
