Consumer Comfort index halts big slide
- The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index inched up to -32.1 from -32.3 last week, halting a big late summer slide which saw the gauge decline from a 66-month high of -23.5 in early August.
- The index's average of -31.1 this year compares to -10.5 through 2007 and the average since 1985 of -16.2. Remove the last 5 years, and the long-term average would be -10.3 - a sign of how far consumer sentiment has to go to return from what is now a lost half-decade.
