Did Best Buy (BBY +2.7%) just leak details of Apple's (AAPL) iTV, and will it get into trouble...

Even if that was unintentionally leaked, it really doesn't matter. There aren't any surprises within that announcement.

Seriously people, did we really expect anything less from an iTV - HDTV, Apps, iCloud, streaming content - Those features are already implied.

the same could be said about their laptops and phones. people like the simplistic design and interface. besides apple has a cult following.

Yeah, those are gadgets, TVs are so cheap now, no one will go for a $1500 42" TV, and a lot of them already have the apps for watching online content. I think we will see people shorting AAPL by the end of the year when they announce its a giant flop.

I just paid $1400 for a Samsung "Smart TV."
Wish I'd have known AAPL was comibng out with their's for $99 more.
i.e....$1499 *will* fly.

You'd pay $1400 for a 42"???? - I just paid $1900 for the top of the line Samsung SMART 60". $1400 won't fly for something this low end. It might do better in Japan however.

I paid 1400 for a 46...it's a price locally that isn't there anymore, they're all selling them for at least $100 more now.

But trust me, a $1499 iTV from Apple will offer a lot more than my "Smart" Samsung.

If the $1500 TV has elements of a computer - apps, browsing, etc, people will go for it. People are already paying $500-800 for iPads.

People can already watch Netflix or Hulu or whatever on TVs with devices they already own. What's the improvement here, besides the glowing Apple logo? You can buy a nice 42" LED TV and a TiVo or video game console for a lot less than this.

Right now the iTV sounds like a very nice TV with the typical AAPL aesthetics (i.e., perfect in design) but just an expansion of the existing AAPL TV (that is, no need for the little black box on the side). For now, that is. Watch the space; soon it will be, "Select the channels you wish to subscribe to..." and no more cable TV packages with unwanted channels and fixed prices; maybe it's 99c per channel per month, minimum 5 channels... so I pick CNBC, BBC, MSNBC, PBS and GolfChannel for $5 per month, no more $50-75+ for a cable package with loads of channels I never use... now that would be sweeeet.

Yes, let's be careful how we use the term "low-end". An Apple TV will be about a lot more than screen inches. And it may be that AAPL doesn't really care how many tv's they sell, or at what margin - why should they - it's just a "hobby", remember??

You guys have not even grasped the ramifications of this TV
AAPL is not dumb enough to come out with 'just another 42" TV' to compete with 60" ones...much more in the TV than you can imagine.
Just look what they did with the iPhone...everyone was perfectly happy, including me with their $49 Nokia phone, weren't they?
With the iPad, everyone said, 'oh, it's just a bigger iPhone without talk capability'. And where are we now?

That is what the iPad is, as a matter of fact, but it didn't stop people from buying it. The herd mentality is still strong with the Apple crowd, for now. Let's see how much longer Apple can keep it that way.

Total market disruption? Ramifications? I just don't have faith that everything Apple does is a slam dunk. I believe it will be a product that will work for you if you have bought into all their other products, but as a stand alone...no way.
