Rambus licenses chip security IP to Microsemi
- Microsemi (MSCC) is licensing IP from Rambus' (RMBS) Cryptography Research unit that it says will allow it to "create extremely tamper-resistant semiconductors for certain government applications, making chips significantly more difficult to emulate, clone or reverse engineer." (PR)
- Microsemi, which sells a variety of specialty ICs for government, defense, and aerospace apps, already licenses differential power analysis security IP from Cryptography Research for use in its FPGAs.
- Rambus acquired Cryptography Research in 2011 for $342.5M. The division licenses a slew of different chip security technologies, and has been pivotal to Rambus' efforts to lower its dependence on memory IP licensing.
