787 loses fuselage panel while in flight
- An eight-by-four-foot fuselage panel fell off a 787 while it was in the air last weekend. It isn't "immediately known where the panel landed," Reuters notes.
- The mishap posed no threat to the passengers, but Boeing (BA) could certainly do without the bad press — just about the last thing the Dreamliner needs at this juncture is headlines referring to parts falling off the jet in mid-air.
- "It was the mid-underwing-to-body fairing located on the belly of the airplane on the right side," a BA spokesman says, adding that the panel "provides a more aerodynamic surface in flight."
