CME results boosted by interest rate contracts
- It's all about the return in interest rate volatility, with average daily volume of 12M contracts up 11% Y/Y, led by 29% growth in interest rate volume. Clearing and transaction fee revenues of $598M up 6%. Average rate per contract of $0.762 up from $0.748 last quarter, driven by higher non-member participation.
- OTC interest rate swaps is a growth story: Market share of 31% is up from 5% at the start of the year. "Now that the three waves of the Dodd-Frank clearing mandate are completed, the market is shifting from a compliance phase to an optimization phase."
