    Democrats and Republicans last night agreed to extend the payroll tax cut until the end of the year, and while a few details still have to be resolved, the sides are hoping for full votes in the House and the Senate tomorrow. The accord will also renew expiring jobless benefits and prevent a pay cut for doctors of Medicare patients.

    Politics 101: In the State of the Union speech and in the budget promise cuts and responsibility. When no one is watching, re-fund the cuts and complain of "austerity."

    Let's not forget that the payroll tax cut is gutting the social security trust fund. Or at least what passes for that fiction.
