Makes me wonder why we're subsidizing coal powered cars like the Volt, when LPG or CNG cars would be cheaper to build, cleaner, and cheaper to run?

Shhhhhhhhhhhh! You're not supposed to tell the enviros that their wonderful, government-subsidized "green" cars run on coal! (Not to mention getting the rare earths used in them out of the ground in China does a helluva lot of damage to the environment there, too.) As long as the enviros driving the Volt feel good about themselves and superior to everyone else, that IS the important thing.
