While Mickey D's has unbeatable market penetration and affordability on its side, industry watchers warn franchises could lose sales to tastier offerings.

OTOH, MCD is run by some extremely bright guys and gals...I would expect that if they saw those high-price/high-margin operators as building a significant market share...they would buy them. (I would also not expect that customers that might pay $10 for a supped-up burger would want sit in a Mickey D's). The trick is separating the threat from the fad...and those who write such stories as the above very likely do not possess those skills.
