Actually, as a Dell employee I really like Windows Phone. Yes it's very different, the Metro UI takes some getting used to, and the Dell Venue Pro has been a totally solid device. Admittedly I didn't buy it, but I do have a Google Nexus S that I did buy and use when overseas, as it's a unlocked device.

Asides from the Venue pro showing it's age now, the camera could use an update, it needs front as well. The latest Skype beta for Windows Phone works really well(notwithstanding the fact there is no front facing camera); the radio has been pretty solid since the first firmware upgrade giving good network and data access.

As a longtime smartphone user, I had, and loved the Palm Treo 600/650, a Blackberry user(I had three), an HTC Touch Pro, and now the Nexus S and Venue Pro, I'd buy an updated Venue Pro again, but ONLY if I could get it unlocked. As a Dell (Senior) employee, I for one am disappointed my company didn't feel it was able to take on the networks and really push for an open smartphone network instead of falling into the same trap as all the other US smartphone providers. The US is falling behind not because of the lack of devices, but because of the network lock-in and the resultant network costs.

Agreed. I have used the Dell Venue Pro, and it's an amazing device with a great feel. Unfortunately, it seems like the company didn't put the amount of effort needed into marketing, supporting, and selling the device. If they had done what Nokia is now doing, they would have a hit on their hands too.
