The outcome of the suit is likely a bigger deal for Amazon (AMZN) than for Apple, given its interest in regaining control over Kindle e-book prices.

Under the Amazon model, Amazon is setting (or fixing) the price. Some books were losing money and some books were making money. The publisher wasn't given a choice except whether to sell the book according to Amazon's pricing scheme. So most publishers preferred the Apple scheme which is how they have been doing business in the hard copy world for years.
