of course this is what the current DOJ is all about - suing states, suing US companies, suing job creators;
and yet vigilante new black panther groups roam the street at will threatening to kill american citizens and DOJ is no where to be seen

Apple didn't fix prices. Amazon had set all prices at $9.99. Apple said it would let the publishers set whatever price they want and Apple would get 30%. It's simple. If you don't like the price, don't buy the book. How is this different than Barnes and Noble? Go buy a new book there. Many of the new issues are only available in hard back and generally go for about $25.

Under the Amazon model, Amazon is setting (or fixing) the price. Some books were losing money and some books were making money. The publisher wasn't given a choice except whether to sell the book according to Amazon's pricing scheme. So most publishers preferred the Apple scheme which is how they have been doing business in the hard copy world for years.
