Pinterest is the "hottest user-generated content app since YouTube," and while the value of Facebook activity has a short shelf-life, Pinterest content tends to retain its value longer. One thing's for sure: the Instagram deal makes clear Facebook isn't scared to pay top dollar for a market-leading rival. And top dollar might be necessary here. (previous)

Users will naturally gravitate to the new start ups and avoid FB at all costs. It will not surprise me that Instagram just dies or at the most just becomes integrated into FB with a new picture sharing site becoming the dominate interface for Twitter.
