In spite of promises to keep the unit at arm's length, Google (GOOG) wants to hold onto Motorola Mobility's (MMI) phone ops because it "wants to have its own iPhone business," sources tell BI. The goal isn't to create additional Nexus phones, but an integrated hardware, software, and services experience similar to Apple's (AAPL). Unsurprisingly, Android partners are "furious" over Google's plans. But given what's known about Larry Page, maybe they shouldn't be surprised.

  • Similar to Apple, from stealing the iPhone and java to everything else they do, a pack of liars and thieves. I cannot wait until Facebook thrashes them.

  • They didn't do a good enough job of ripping off the iPhone on the first attempt, so they're going to try even harder this time.

  • I have conflicted feelings. On the one hand, I really hate back stabbing business practices; on the other hand, when they announced the acquisition, you could see it coming and it makes me laugh. Then I feel guilty for laughing.

I suppose the next move would be for Google to move into the tablet space to compete against Apple and screw Amazon. That would truly be funny. That I wouldn't feel any guilt about; Amazon deserves it.

  • With every such step they walk further and further from their core competency and into a trap ultimately waiting for them....

  • That mobile business model is not looking good... now it's going to be lot easier for MSFT to get Samsung, HTC and others to switch to windows instead of using Android.

Remember they already have NOK and at least by looking back I don't remember MSFT trying to compete with their PC manufacturing partners (Dell, IBM, Compaq etc..).

GOOG founding members are keeping to much power, making bad choices, looking too thirsty and getting too low to increase short term profits
