Friday, April 20, 2012, 5:13 PM ETNokia (NOK -3.1%) hit new lows again thanks to bearish notes from Wells Fargo and Bernstein; shares are down 26% since the company's Q1/Q2 warning. Wells joins others in asserting Lumia shipments won't offset the collapse in Symbian sales, while Bernstein is worried about consumer interest in Lumia phones (Q1 sell-through is pegged at just 1.1M-1.4M) and a Q1 ASP of just €220 (likely to rise in Q2 thanks to Lumia 900 sales). At least that is what I've been led to believe.
Are you maybe changing your tune about NOK dear DVL?
I will go long Nokia when earnings growth, margin growth and profit margins improve significantly.
With current management, that is highly unlikely.
It is now in the hands of people, one by one, who will decide how to spend their money, based on what they think about the company, it's products and their past or expected experience.
The wall streeters can only see data as it is now, not in the future any more than any of us can. They blow with the wind.
Talk about nuts, I had a "vision" today of Nokia not ruling the world, but making good phones with most features people need without the pricey sidebar stuff that Apple makes. And doing pretty well. Again, with all respect to Jobs, who is one of my heroes. If Nokia survives at all, it will be because Steve Jobs forced it to become a better company. Period. And trust me folks, I know, I own an N95 that is so well made that NOTHING can destroy it - but the software is truly, truly crap. Getting rid of Symbian was the ONLY way.

Even if Apple and Nokia were set to zero tomorrow and given an even start to re-build their brands and sales, Apple would win just on marketing alone!!
You need to break down the markets to gain a true perspective. We will have to wait and see if in China, through China Mobil, if Lumia sales are increasing at a faster rate then Symbian is decreasing. But to compare markets otherwise is foolish and deceptive.
