If reports of an EMC bid for flash storage array vendor XtremIO pan out, the move could trigger a flurry of M&A activity in the enterprise flash storage space, argues Derrick Harris, as rivals such as NetApp, H-P, Dell, and IBM try to return fire. XtremIO rival Violin Memory, reportedly valued at $800M in a recent funding round, would likely be a target. So might Nimbus Data Systems, Fusion-io (FIO - previous), and others.
