The mythical Facebook (FB) phone could arrive as soon as Q3, reports Digitimes. In-line with prior rumors, Facebook is said to be working with HTC on the device, which will feature (like the Kindle Fire) a custom version of Android. It's added Google (GOOG) has chosen to partner with Samsung for its next Nexus phone. That could be adding to the recent anxiety of Motorola Mobility (MMI) investors, though Google has said Nexus projects would remain open to third parties.

  • Hmmm... Wouldn't FB choose MSFT instead of their ultimate rival, GOOG? I'll believe it when I see it.

  • If Facebook wants a custom OS to showcase its HTML5 platform, open-source Android is the better option. Microsoft maintains tight control over Windows Phone.

  • Why in the world would FB want to throw away money on the highly competitive phone market?

What they should've been developing was a better way for businesses to become social.
