I'm mixed on my feelings for A123; However, with the amount of energy that goes into DOD contracts (on both sides) the gain of is a virtual boost to income. I delt with them for well over 5 years on both sides and have found that unless some very large, unknown, issue presents itself, it always works out for the company in question. That being said, there is an old addage that says when you get in bed with the gov't, prepared to be screwed. DOD does not pick its suppliers willy-nilly and there must be some presentation of the technology that A123 has that boosts them well over the competition. Lowest bidder is a false assumption, and quality as well as heavy testing almost always wins the bid. Larger contacts have a lot of poly-ticks involved, but the nature of this one speaks more of DARPA rather than DC.

I strongly doubt Obama has anything to do with the A123 contract. Short of being the president and having a green agenda, I'd be surprised if he had ever heard the company name or has a clue what they do.
