I was the same way ...overpriced! what's the big deal! and then my wife bought an iphone and she was unable to deal with tech. I notice she was zipping around on this thing with apps, pictures, games and all kind of stuff. We now own, a mac pro and an ipad and an ipod ....I now understand . Try it you like it

That is a main reason for my dislike for Apple. All the damn accessories and nothing is ever compatible. Just use a a mini USB like everyone else already.

Actually, from my smartphone experience with all mini-usb smartphones, mini-usb connections SUCKKKKKKKKKK!!!! I cannot tell you how many I have had snap off on me and how many get stressed to the point they will not make electrical contact and they stop charging my phone. I think Apple's approach is much better, particularly with their laptops. A magnetically attached, very high aspect ratio charging connection which is extremely resistant to shearing loads is the best charging solution. That way WHEN you accidentally bump your phone off the top of your cpu tower or wherever, there is less likelihood of the charger tip breaking or bending and you having to purchase a new one. Of course, I have only used Ipods, but I prefer that connection. If they were really smart they would just include both, but they would probably lose some small sliver or revenue from that.

Mini usb was never designed for that number of connections. Manufacturers should be using micro usb. It's designed for more frequent connections and I've been using it on phones for years without any issues.

No one else will use magnetic connectors because of the stupidity of patents.

So does the smaller dock connector mean this new iPhone won't dock into any of the myriad existing consumer electronics devices with iPod dock ports?

If so, that is really not a good thing at all. Why break from their standard docking connector now? I'm a bit skeptical of this particular bit of news.

iLounge just hit my 'ignore everything they say' list. The likelihood of Apple changing its aspect ratio and introducing a new dock connector is about the same as a glacier flattening NYC with the next 6 months.

This is possible, I guess. Still seems like a long shot considering its antenna design etc. For me this falls in line with a lot of the bogus rumors that Apple seems to generate as part of its standard operating procedure of market obfuscation.

I find it interesting how many 'Apple sourced' or 'Apple insider' stories come out with specs about Apple products that prove to be wrong, and firmly believe Apple itself is the originator, intending to confuse its competition about what it's doing.

Don't worry, new glass and different dock connector are not going to be the only new features of the iPhone 5, Apple knows those features aren't enough of an inducement for most people to upgrade. The 4s was supposed to be a transitional product to the 5, I expect the 5 to be a major upgrade to the iPhone that will spur a major upgrade cycle.
