Don't see how they will be able to get it to market for less than $3k.
Will have a heck of a lot of competition going against it, but alot of people thought the iPad would be a big flop.
Obviously it was actually much more than that but there is always that outside possibility that when Jobs said he figured out TV, he might have actually done it.
Crazier things have happened.
Way back, way back, way back Apple have the idea of a PDA, we're talking mid 80s when the IEEE adoped WiFi (801.11x).
This vision became Newton & Newton is a cross between the iPhone & iPad.
These are facts.
What would be great is when Apple is able to combine many sources of media into a single stream so that I as a user do not have to worry about channels any more and focus on what I would like to watch.
I think the real king is integrating a virtual DVR (Cloud :-) into the game. Of course that means Apple can charge more without having to provide a DVR at each location. a Cloud based DVR can simply keep 1 single copy of a program no matter how many people have decided they like to view it.
Most DVRs allow you to say you wish to watch new episods of say "The big bang theory" and further more, you can say record, HD version, New Episod, and any channel. Apple should take the concept of a channel and extend it wider such as YouTube, Itunes, even paid for services such as Hulu, Netflix.
Add to the above, the Match capability so you can discover other programs you may not be aware of.
Good luck apple...
I"m buying Corning Glass.
Still, a lot of people own i-Devices, all of which I would expect will in some way integrate with the iTV just as they do with the current Apple TV set-top box. The cool factor of using an iPod touch for a remote control and wirelessly adding a second screen to your iPad, iPhone, or Mac might be enough to help sell people up to it, though.
My question is - how much will a 50" HDTV made from aluminum weigh? :)
This is nailing the coffin shut from the inside.
Short AAPL
Long T, VZ
Do it now gang.....
Good trading!
Think iphone first and then apps followed it, then came the ipad (bigger iphone), and more apps followed it, now think iTV (bigger iPad), and even more APPS will follow. We are all in the instant App, App, App world. Hint- its looks like a TV but not a "TV". Sure It can act like one but that not what it is for. They just call it that so customers are comfortable. just like "iphone" was not just a phone back then. Get it ?
"design synergy" concept for life from the iPod to iPhone to iPad to iPanel TV and upgrades every few years we will be set. We love cinema design that is AWESOME news.APD
You would have also 3D capabilities with direct purchase thru iTunes to the content generators (Studios, NFL, FIFA, etc)
The only bootleneck is that new distribution is bandwith so it may use unique satellite downstream while upstream is thru ADSL/Fiber/etc actual internet providers.
It going to be a blowing Steve Jobs heritage to all us.
Isn't it already evident on the ipad - MLB Player, ABC player and other APPS. You define/demand your own channels (Apps) not want the cable/dish force you in their "packages" and oh BTW you (read kids) can take it with you when not "home"
If Apple can bring a user-friendly 'revamping and efficiency' to the TV experience it would be more significant than their impact on the music industry. Everyone has a TV, not everyone listens to mp3's.
