Greek President Karolos Papoulias will today ask deadlocked politicians to allow a government of non-partisan technocrats to take over and steer the country through its bailout, although Papoulias' prospects of success are slim as the hard-left anti-bailout party SYRIZA has already said it won't agree.

  • Lesson one from Yogi Alinsky's book for anti-radicals: There's no such thing as "non-partisan" technocrats. Technocrats, or as Yogi preferred, "apparatchiks" are always partisan in a leftist direction. They favor the growth of government at the expense of any remaining private sector, and they are able to hobble "reforms" and "austerity" proposed by democratically-elected leaders who have nominal charge of the apparats.
