H-P's (HPQ) layoffs are being conducted on the basis of salary and aren't weighing factors such as skills and performance, upset employees tell BI. It's also claimed cronyism is playing a big role in the layoff decisions. Deutsche's Chris Whitmore notes past restructurings have done little to improve's H-Ps competitive positioning, or cut its dependence on weak markets. 9K of H-P's 27K job cuts will occur this fiscal year, and result in $400M in cash charges. • It is hard to believe that this process will be based on salary, etc. as it would imply that there will be age discrimination. The company will not allow this. The selection process the company uses to decide who will be laid off is a well established process. I am sure that the company will not put a new process in place for this time around as it would be too risky. The former EDS company had too many and well paid employees. The management teams have to find ways to reduce without using discriminatory practices.

  • Cronyism, keeping incompetent managers, following recommendations of those incompetent mangers as who should go, boat rockers, outspoken team members, etc, etc, have been the model for layoffs; we need to thank Ronnie (the great communicator) for initiating 'dis-loyalty' trend amongst companies when he fired the air traffic controllers; the expectation is only for the employees to remain loyal! and when the co lays off people we don't see any lack of exorbitant compensation for departing CEO's who actually ship wrecked the co(e.g. Furina in the case of HP)

  • I thought every ill in the world was George W's fault! Now you have to reach back to Reagan?? One of the best things Reagan did was fire the air traffic controllers when they refused to return to work and end their ILLEGAL strike.
