Android's (GOOG) tablet market standing receives another hit (previous) courtesy of Cisco (CSCO), which says it will no longer invest in its Cius enterprise tablet line. Instead, the company will focus on providing IP communications software for mobile devices via its Jabber and WebEx families. Cisco's move comes as enterprise iPad (AAPL) usage takes off, both due to corporate purchases and IT's "bring your own device" (BYOD) trend.

  • Oh, hell yes I see this in education.

It has come full circle. When Apple was hot, decades ago, all the districts were putting only Apple computers in the classrooms. Enter PC and for decades it was only PCs and here teachers were actually forbidden and disciplined for using an apple device for online (intranet) access including emails! Now it has come full circle and our district is actually buying iPads for teachers and students as incentives.

  • exactly! I know for a fact, the executives in the largest school district in San Antonio have all been given iPads and the program will expand.

  • $CSCO should have discontinued Cius when $HPQ and $RIMM failed miserably. A year of resources wasted! Instead, it could have invested in making apps for both iOS and Android with deep integration to its telepresence and datacenter products

  • Yes another screw up by CISCO. Why they thought they should be in the tablet market, I'll never know. Chambers, was that your great idea?
What about the flip camera? Is there no end to the screw ups at CISCO?? What's the next screw up? All that video crap Chambers keeps talking about and money he keeps pissing down the drain.
