    The Windows 8 (MSFT) release preview is out, and it's laden with a slew of features not found in February's consumer preview. Among the highlights are new Bing and digital media apps that have generally earned positive reviews. The release preview "feels very close to a finished product," says The Verge's David Pierce.   • Fairly impressive. This is a big directional shift. I still think tablets will do better with this, though it looks like they are on their way towards addressing laptop issues. I don't see myself trading in my MacBook Pro, but a Windows 8 tablet might make it into my office.

  • Yeah I'm personally not moving my computing from the Apple platform but very interested in the speculative potential of NOK w W8 mobile and the impact of a Nokia tablet sporting W8; not so sure about MSFT, Pogue reviewed W8 on the desktop and called it a facade on top of windows.

    I'm sure Pugue intended " facade on top of windows" to be a negative aspect, but in all seriousness, what else could it be? Of course it's a facade on top of windows; it *is* Windows with a new UI.

    I would be more concerned if Microsoft swapped out the OS with say QNX then called it Windows 8.
