There are now over 100K Windows Phone (MSFT) apps available - that's up from barely 50K at the end of 2011, and less than 25K a year ago. About 2/3 of all apps are free. Though Windows Phone's app library is still much smaller than iOS and Android's, its growth shows the willingness of app developers to spread their bets, especially as WP gains a bit of momentum thanks to Nokia's (NOK) Lumia launches. • Hooray for the 100k apps, but not a decent podcast app in site. I have emailed my Android app developer to cajole him/ her to create a similar one for wp.

  • Try this exclusive Wphone App (QR Coder). It allows you to change things into QR codes ( contact info, url's and text ). It's a lot of fun when your giving a apple guy your contact info and he can't find the App for his phone. Bra hahaha. Seriously the lack of apps arguments were some of the least credible arguments out there for convincing people windows phone would fail. I mean how hard can an app language translation be. 25,000 to 100,000 in one year.

  • I gave up my iPhone 3GS after seeing how smooth Lumia 710 is.
The free Nokia Drive with offline download maps is just wonderful than what you have to pay >$50 in iPhone apps.
in fact, there are growing number of wonderful apps. To name a few, Weave, MS Office, MSN Money, Mystocks portfolio+, Markets & Me, Photosynth, ....

  • 100,000 apps tells you nothing. How many fart apps does it have compared to Apple?

  • Agreed. This is the only true measure of an App Store.

  • Well, hold on there, don't forget the sexy girl apps. I'm sure they make up at least 5% of apps in the wp market or so it seems.

  • How many of these apps were paid for by Microsoft?

  • Not sure that really matters GSlusher, if they paid for most of them that just shows MS is committed to the development of Apps and we can expect the App numbers to continue growing, conversely if they aren't paying for most of them that means there is enough interest out there without MSFT's money working to build apps for WPhones which again we can expect it to grow.

Win win in my opinion, personally I'd like it if MSFT is paying developers to build stuff, more jobs for people helps the economy.

A more valid concern is the post that was made earlier "how many fart apps are there" or the hot girls app... the ridiculous apps or garbage apps pushing the number higher when in reality there is little use for them. We need a system that ranks the use-ability of Apps, and at some point low on the scale they don't count; such as fart/hot girl apps.

  • If only Nokia's share price could follow the path of the increase in apps for the Lumia. ;(

  • And it's down a bit today (June 7th). NOK is up in the last few days--YAY for NOK investors! However, since the Lumia 900 was launched in the US (April 8th), NOK is down about 44%. The past several weeks have seen NOK go up, then slide back even further. Thus, I wouldn't be too excited--just yet. Besides, as Nokia is trading at $2.86 right now, even the smallest possible change ($0.01) will be about 0.35%.

  • If NOK could just manage to string together 15 or 16 more +5% days with no -1% days then we can get this bad boy up in the mid $4s again by Independence Day.

  • They do not move like that.... They go up 5/6 % for a few days and then an announcement comes out that explains the accumulation. Then they either move much higher quickly or the deal unravels and down it goes. My money is on the Nokia + side right now. MS needs them and others may as well. They are at a strategic juncture for MS which wants to grow Win phones and Android which would like them back in their fold. MS has deep pockets and Android side does as well.

    Sound reasonable.
