    Quite a change from the attitude of just a few months ago, Citigroup (C) will not ask Fed permission to repurchase shares this year. Global financial jitters and JPMorgan's trading loss must be looming high in regulators' minds at the moment, and another rejection of Citi's capital return plan would reflect badly on bank management. (Citi statement)

  • Exactly the problem with corporate share buybacks. Now that C shares are relatively cheap it would actually help C shareholders for C to be buying shares back. If and when they get more expensive in future years, such share buybacks have much less benefit to shareholders.
