Verizon Wireless' (VZ, VOD) efforts to promote 4G devices have led Motorola's (GOOG) Droid RAZR MAXX to surpass the iPhone (AAPL) as its top-selling model, claims William Blair's Anil Doradio after conducting checks. However, he believes the iPhone remains AT&T and Sprint's best-selling device, and expects the arrival of a 4G model to act as "an important catalyst" for Apple. (also)

  • Have yet to get what the fuss over 4g is other than the fact that it has expanded the amount of bandwidth providers can offer to their customers.... speedwise I have noticed zero difference in my uses...

Even streaming Pandora I can switch to 2g to extend my battery life with little impact...

It's been a great marketing gimmick though, apparently.

  • do you stream videos, browse the web, etc on your phone? The difference in speed should be pretty noticeable if you're actually switching from 4g/LTE to 3g. I personally get 17-19mbps on 4g/LTE (down) vs around 5-6mbps on 3g. So it's ~3 times the downstream bandwidth for me, which equates to much faster + smoother streaming/loading.

  • I am in a business network in the greater Houston area and discussed 3G vs. 4G with a geek. He asked what I planned to use the data for. When I described it he said, " The 4G brings data like a firehose. The 3G brings data like a garden hose. What you need is a drink of water. You don't need 4G. Suggestion: Figure out what data you will need and ask a specialist. I use my phone for business but not for games or movies.
    'nuff said,
