I realize at Harvard they teach their charges there is such a thing as a free lunch, and at Georgetown the 30-year-old graduate "students" are taught there is such a thing as "free" contraceptives ('cause otherwise they'd cost $3000 a term), but on this site can we dispense with that garbage. Your MRI costs two or three times as much as it needs to because of all the "free" coverage for other stuff. We learned that at my university in the Cost-shifting 101 class.

And so, Tony, pray tell the problem with "incentivizing" people to be more involved with their own health so they can avoid the MRI and its expense. "Tis what bending the cost curve is all about. Maybe the insurance companies should throw in a coupon for a free Big Mac?

when does government ever do better business? o.k. they might come up with some good ideas sometimes or even rules or laws for safety of employees or consumer protection but when they run a business that is socialism, not free enterprise or capitalism which trives on science and progress. just talk about costs, competition lowers costs. bailouts do not encourage better products or services!
