Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD) introduces its anticipated shared data plans. The plans, which come bundled with unlimited voice and text messaging, aren't cheap: a user wanting to share 2GB/month between a smartphone and a tablet, for example, will have to pay $110/month. AT&T (T) has hinted it will also offer shared data plans. (PR)

  • With limited spectrum....this is inevitable.

Look for profits to zoom at T, VZ, and S.

  • Spectrum is hardly the issue considering how the Europeans market is doing.

This is likely part of traditional telecom strategy of opening prices high and reducing them over time.

  • I agree with montanamark - There is a limit as to what people will pay for service especially in this economy. It is possible to price yourself out of a segment or portion of the market. Once people switch to another less expensive service it is costly to replace these customers. Also when people downgrade for savings it is difficult to get them to increase services as well.

  • I pay $50/mo for my iPad 5GB data plan (VZ). If i can share via hotspot with up to 5 devices, why would I pay for some shared plan for $100+ per month.
