The ruling expected Friday on union contracts has been pushed back to June 29 for American Airlines (AAMRQ.PK) - providing a bit more time for the company to persuade unions to accept voluntary cost cuts. An eventual ruling could pave the way for imposed steps, including layoffs. (earlier)

  • The Unions should negotiate a settlement with the Airline outside of bankruptcy court. The judge already said that what they settle on outside of court would be much better than what he would rule. Completely screwing the debt holders would place the business in poor stead for an ongoing enterprise. If the unions go along with a fair settlement to create a stronger airline business, they will have a retirement and a living wage versus a bankrupt company and a loss of a job.

  • yup, crony capitlism strikes again, claim bankruptsy, after the insiders drain all the profits, force the unions to settle, wipe the books clean and start all over again.
