Google (GOOG) international commerce chief Stephanie Tilenius is leaving the company to join VC firm Kleiner Perkins. Tilenius helped kick-start Google Wallet, and the fact she was reassigned  to another unit in January fueled concerns Google's mobile payments efforts were in trouble. (Larry Page)

  • It seems to me that Google should focus on getting markets share of the cell phone market first before working on other initiatives like mobile payment systems. Google needs to limit the number of products and development staffs toward those products that will bring the best growth opportunities and return to the stockholders. It can use its free cash flow to develop or purchase a software company or partner with a financial institution to develop mobile payments.

Google should focus on its core businesses and not true to immediately offer all products to all people and be the master of none.

I'm long Google now and believe it is the best of breed in tech sector. However, Google management should throw an occasional bone to its stockholders to remind them and the markets that they are still a growth company.
