In spite of Intel's (INTC) massive Ivy Bridge launch, AMD is well-positioned to gain notebook and desktop PC CPU share over the next 18 months on the back of its Trinity and Brazos platforms, thinks Williams Financial. The firm notes AMD's CPU design win share is much higher than its revenue share, and also expects the company's purchase of low-power server tech developer SeaMicro to give it a lift.

  • AMD will get as much business as Intel allows them to have.

  • I completely disagree. I don't think AMD is going to be a major competitor in the tech sector in 5 years. Intel not only produces a product that out performs AMD's comparable hardware, but Intel also has the longevity factor thanks to their superior hardware maintaining lower temperatures. AMD is questioning its direction and considering cutting to the mobile market. If that isn't a big enough hint to jump ship look at their reduction in production.

They cannot compete with Intel. Even if AMD succeeds in a successful partnership with ARM, once Intel releases their mobile processor it is likely that Intel will also dominate that market share. If the DOJ wasn't breathing down Intel's neck there probably wouldn't be an AMD to talk about.

  • I remember that time.
AAPL switched to Intel chips, not AMD.
That's what you were leading to, right?
