Monday, June 25, 2012, 12:42 PM ETThe FDA is due to hold a meeting this week to discuss the safety of metal-on-metal hip implants, which were supposed to be better than the plastic and ceramic devices they replaced but could be failing much earlier than expected. The agency has asked manufacturers such as J&J (JN) and Zimmer (ZMH) to carry out long-term follow-up studies.
