Steven Guggenheimer, the Microsoft (MSFT) exec in charge of handling relationships with hardware clients, has been reassigned to an unspecified management position. Microsoft claims the move is the result of long-term planning, but it might not be a coincidence it comes shortly after the introduction of Microsoft Surface, which has upset many Windows OEMs. Guggenheimer will be replaced by marketing exec Nick Parker.

  • Surface was the right move if they want to take on Apple. Maybe Guggenheimer did a bad job of working with the other companies and "softening the blow," but the launch needed to be kept as secret as possible...

  • It's pretty typical for members of a launch team to move on after a soft launch. I wouldn't read too much into this.
