    Countrywide Financial used a VIP loan program from 1996-2008 to try to prevent legislation that would have hampered its sale of sub-prime mortgages, a report from a House panel said yesterday. The lender offered or gave discounts to members of Congress and their staffers, government officials and execs at Fannie Mae.

  • ok.. I am hoping someone would initiate an investigation into this. Otherwise, all these reform talks are pretty useless changes are from the roots.

  • It took this long to finally come to that conclusion? How many stories came out while it was occurring hypothesizing just that. Now the damage is done & the same people are still in their jobs legislating. This is the kind of thing that wants you to spit out your coffee. Countrywide was a fraud, Angelo Mozillo's suits still look pressed, and he found the greater fool in Ken Lewis to buy him out.

  • Meantime, Reuters is reporting that "a spokesperson for Angelo Mozillo stated 'we took care of our people.' A spokesperson for Eric Holder's spokesperson said 'Mr. Mozillo took care of our people, we take care of our people and so we can't prosecute.' A spokesperson for Senator Dodd in Hollywood noted that 'Senator Dodd has been a leader in the movement to reform the banking system and will be available to serve on the proposed Committee to Study Reforms of the Banking System in light of the Failure of Dodd/Frank to Result in Anything other that a Massive Expansion of Attorney Employment in Washington D.C.'"
