The logic behind Campbell Soup's (CPB -0.9%) acquisition of Bolthouse Farms is fairly clear after the company saw its soup sales fall 3% over a 9-month tracking period, while beverage sales increased with new energy drinks and smoothies contributing to the gain. CEO Denise Morrison continues to move Campbell into new markets to appeal to a broader demographic and is reportedly targeting other M&A opportunities overseas.

  • People don't have time to stop and heat up soup.
Just grab an energy drink and a protein shake and call it good.
I like CPB's move here. Bolthouse is good stuff.
I don't own the stock, but this acquisition makes it more appealing.
