Facebook (FB) is seeing declining activity among U.S. users, according to a Pac Crest survey. 39% of respondents said they post status updates, down from 45% in a prior survey. 27% said they've posted less about themselves over the past 6 months, compared with 12% who said they've posted more, and the percent sharing photos fell to 44% from 57%. Separately, Capstone notes Facebook's job postings on LinkedIn are down in Q2 (ed: Capstone has interesting timing). (Reuters) (comScore)

  • As people learn that FB acts as if the company has -0- respect for user privacy, they will use FB less.

  • Agree totally. They'll also notice that there are better ways to interact with people. FB should literally be used as an email system. Nothing more.

  • Agree 100%, which is why I have my settings on "public," assuming from the outset, like all things "virtual," that where there's a will there's a way to access postings and get "poked" with an ad offering.

Too bad FB can't be a way of enhancing simple e-mail as a means of keeping in touch with family and friends, via pictures, etc., which is the only reason that I subscribed in the first place. But along came further greed and the infamous IPO....

But even with the "social" part of what's posted and regardless of how much I love my "friends" (2 digits in number total and that's a stretch), who the heck cares about what your thrice removed cousin had for lunch yesterday?
Ah....the age of narcissism increases by the virtual minute.

  • People don't like being FaceBook's product. They don't like being tracked by FB, Twitter, WSJ.Com, Politico and other web operators.

At the same time, FB content has gone south big time. People just aren't using it anymore.

FB seems to be dominated by a few spammers on single-issue annoyances.

  • Perhaps they should have named themselves iFaceBook with i standing for id__ts. Oops, already another company has trademarked it, I guess!

  • FB is ever present in almost every corner of the media. Any time you try to log into something, the site asks if you want to log in via FB. FB is not going away anytime soon.

  • FB peaked in popularity well before it’s IPO. It will go the way of My Space and be replaced by the new “In” social networking site. I’m sick of people trying to compare this with Apple. What does FB have that other social sites can’t do better at?
