The U.S. launch of Google's (GOOG) Nexus 7 tablet is off to a decent start: retailers such as GameStop and Sam's Club have quickly sold out of the device, which most reviewers have declared to be superior to the Kindle Fire (AMZN). But it remains to be seen whether the momentum lasts in the face of the iPad's enormous popularity: the Kindle Fire sold briskly early on, but sales plunged in Q1.

  • Nexus will self-immolate just like Fire.
For better platform/quality we will wait
for the new top of the line (AAPL) iPad Mini.

  • "Quickly sold out" means nothing without sales figures. Did each Sam's Club and Gamestop sell the two tablets they had?

  • I think some people may be under-estimating what Google will bring to the market. Nexus will be the first; real threat to Apple and I look forward to this competition. I believe it will be good for the market and users everywhere; including both Apple and Google fans. I have 6 Apple devices in my house and I'm seriously considering a Nexus tablet. If nothing else; that is proof enough to me that Google is a credible threat to Apple.

  • If I want; the latest and greatest, I'll buy 7" iPad. If I want price, I'll buy a marked down early iPad. Why buy the copies when you can get the real thing?
