    The RESTORE Act, which was signed into law earlier this month, could divert billions of dollars in penalties to the five states hit by BP's (BP) Gulf oil spill: Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Texas. BP is reportedly trying to settle for $15B, but Louisiana, at least, is happy to take its chances in court in the belief that BP would be ordered to pay much more.

    The ambulance chasers are having trouble keeping up with BP's earnings growth and profits.

    A global settlement is in the offing and La. would be wise to just get onboard and shut up.

    After the Macondo disaster, the Obama administration delayed expert aid from the Netherlands and Great Britain for just over one month. While the biased American press totally ignored this fact, former President Clinton acknowledged that this was a mistake which caused much of the environmental damage.

    Personal freedom and particularly freedom of the press can have positive effects when properly exercised. But when it is one-sided, it tends to exacerbate the polarization of our country and accelerates our decline.

    I thought the piece was about the arabian gulf countries. Couldn't care about the gulf of Mexico. Coincidentally, BP was not invited to a multi-billion dollar tender in abu dhabi recently.

    The amount of money is enormous by most modern-day standards, but the needs in Alabama alone are huge. The aftermath is still apparent some two years after the disaster. Time to get things moving.
