Another use could be for making car parts on spec. 3D printing is still limited, but companies that could benefit include 3D Systems (DDD).

I put this stock on my watch list 06/20/12. It is currently up 5% in the last month. There are other companies in this space. DDD has not yet become the HP printer in the 3D sector, but it is a player that is helping to advance the reduction in cost and subsequent build out of the technology.
Hopefully, I will have a chance to buy in on the next market correction.
but the real winner is industry and if you own stocks in these companies you will benefit - when this takes off it will be revolutionary - the materials savings, productivity improvements, the reduction in trnsport costs - all of these add up to large.

Hmm. No longer necessary to stock parts for older vehicles. Once an inventory is finished, you go to the printer.
This will be amazing someday.. when people can share "stuff" like they do documents and media, over the internet.
