I am recently retired, but not ready to quit. I had never actively invested in stock equities until December 2008. I have a diversified business background in agriculture, real estate, wholesale oil and gasoline and retail hardware. I began to invest in rather small increments after the market had retreated a great deal. March 2009 certainly offered the opportunity to invest in good companies at much reduced prices. I found no broker who was interested in small investors so I went to Scottrade and opened an account. I have spent many hours educating myself about stock investment and have been very fortunate to realize gains up to this time.
Risk and reward is not new to me as my business background and whatever success I achieved was built on this understanding. I have learned that there are tools that can help minimize risk , but ultimately learning to buy a small interest in a successful company with a good earnings history is the best risk management I have found.
