As part of a settlement with the FCC, Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD) has agreed to stop blocking its customers from downloading tethering and mobile hotspot apps from Android Market. The settlement threatens Verizon's lucrative hotspot and 4G modem subscriptions. A similar deal with AT&T (T) could soon follow. Apple has thus far blocked tethering/hotspot apps from the App Store at the request of carriers.
