    Mark Thompson has been named CEO and president at The New York Times Co. (NYT), filling a vacancy left after Janet Robinson left last December. Thompson, outgoing director general of the BBC, will join in November and also sit on the board, and speculation had him up for the role throughout the summer.

    As if this move will stem the slide in subscriptions. At least he'll benefit from a 1%'er compensation package.
