I AM 83, HAVE HAD 3 SMALL BUISNESSES WORKED HARD AND WAS RUN OUT OF BUISNESS BY THE UNION BECAUSE I STOOD UP FOR THE WORKING MAN INSTEAD OF LETTING THE UNION BOSSES TROUBLE THEM.

THEY RUINED THE AUTO INDUSTRY AND NOW THEY WANT TO DO THE SAME TO THE REST OF THE INDUSTRY SO THEY CAN KEEP ON GETTING THEIR FAT SALARIES

gator51 we're the same age and have seen a lot w/unions. I am european and I can bet you they will soon destroy France.
Holland and his gang are taking care of that.

I am only 81, so I don't have all the knowledge of Gator51,
but I tend to agree with him. Compare the salaries of the
UAW or the AMAW/IAM to the average Chinese worker, or
South American worker and I think you will see why American companies are outsourcing products to less expensive countries.

I don't think this is healthy for the USA in general, but it does let the less advantaged people buy things for less at Walmart.

There are always two sides to any argument, and I think we
should keep this in mind, even if our stupid government does not.

Unions are good when they try to equalize pay for people, but when they try to get an advantage over others they will see the jobs going to states or countries where other people are happy to get a job.

We can put tariffs, duties on things to keep inexpensive products from coming into the USA, but that only increases the cost for the less advantaged people going to Walmart or Dollar General and benefits the fat cats in the unions.

I may be wrong, but I took economics in high school, and learned you should not spend more than you earn, like our government is doing now. Someday the Ponzi scheme will end with bad results for the middle class.

The unions always want more money, better benefits, more time off, etc, and they will probably be replaced by robots and wonder where the jobs went?

While you are comparing wages in China and South America to wages in the USA, also compare living costs and markets for goods and services. The drive for lower US wages is inevitable, but it has a cost. Not just for the workers, but for the economy. Prices will fall, markets for goods and services will shrink. Proctor and Gamble, for example, no longer markets to the US middle class, having concluded that it is a dying market. In the US, they market to the top and bottom brackets. P&G hasn't transitioned fast enough however and has cut guidance three times in the last nine months. Eventually, the drive to cut wages destroys consumption.
