Friday, August 24, 2012, 4:52 PM ETCisco's (CSCO) newly-formed Insieme division is working on a high-end switch that can handle at least a hundred 100-gig Ethernet ports, reports Light Reading. Insieme was created to build switches supporting software-defined networking (SDN), an increasingly popular concept that threatens to undermine sales of Cisco's proprietary switches. A Cisco engineer recently said his company, which reportedly made a failed attempt to buy SDN software leader Nicira (acquired by VMW), now accepts "the [SDN] genie is out of the bottle."
