InterDigital (IDCC) expects Q3 revenue of $60M, excluding its $375M patent sale to Intel. That number is down sharply from Q2's $71.9M, and is blamed on lower per-unit royalties from certain unnamed licensees, primarily from Japan (ed: were licensing deals renegotiated at lower rates?) . Sony, which has had a licensing deal with InterDigital for years, could be one of the licensees. (PR)

  • Sony does and did not have a licensing deal with IDCC, Maybe you are thinking of Sharp. Your inaccuracy is amazing. Try putting out a trash publication for the supermarket shelves. That's where your crappy reporting belongs.

  • Thanks for the friendly commentary. But Sony (via Sony Ericsson, which Sony now owns in full) does in fact have a licensing deal with InterDigital.

  • Most 3G phones still feature 2G GSM radios, which means they'd be covered by a 2G licensing deal. There's still a lot of land out there (particularly in emerging markets) that only has 2G coverage, which makes backwards-compatibility necessary.
