Former UBS banker Bradley Birkenfeld is awarded $104M by the IRS for blowing the whistle on the bank's illegal encouragement of tax-avoiding offshore accounts. UBS paid $780M and agreed to turn over account holder names in 2009 to settle the claims. Birkenfeld can't enjoy the money just yet as he's doing time for conspiracy to defraud the U.S. God's work indeed.

  • Convicted felons should be exempt from receiving any IRS whistle blower award. As the US slowly sinks into the abyss, some idiot decided to give away $104mm of taxpayer money. Sad.

  • Out of curiousity, would you have preferred UBS get away with it?

Also, I gather you don't feel that $780m received from UBS isn't worth the $104m to said felon?
