Wednesday, September 12, 2012, 2:11 PM ETAs was rumored, iPhone 5 pre-orders begin on Sep. 14, and shipments start on Sep. 21. That should let Apple (AAPL +0.5%) record a healthy amount of FQ4 sales. Subsidized U.S. prices for iPhone 5 models are in-line with those for the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 3GS is being discontinued, and the iPhone 4 is now free with a 2-year contract. iOS 6 will arrive on Sep. 19, replete with new mapping software and a revamped iTunes/App Store. The iPhone 5 doesn't appear to have an NFC chip. (live blog) (more)
